Power of Four

Keeping the voice and culture of the Cheyenne River youth alive!

Power of Four in the new year!

As the new year trucks onward, so will our Power of Four interns!

By the end of this year, our expectations and our mission is for our interns to receive the necessary training and support to learn how to represent their peers and serve as advocates for their needs and the needs of others in meaningful ways.

While we haven’t had our first meeting yet, we have outlined what our key goals for the 2012 year will be. Our number one priority is getting the Advisory Council up and running, with each teen creating a position for themselves within the council. Our hope is to attend the Cheyenne River youth Project Board Meetings on a regular basis, providing input on key issues whenever possible!

Some of our objectives for this year include:

*Developing summer sports with CRYP’s wellness coordinator

*Create and implement bi-weekly fundraisers to ensure continuity of the program

*Help develop new programming for the Main and the Cokata Wiconi Teen Center

*Assist in planning a cultural event open to the public

*Stage a Young Native Writer Contest for the Eagle Butte community

*Attend various workshops, trainings, and camps to enhance our understanding and skills within the four modules (Leadership, Wellness, Job Skills, and Life Skills)

*Pledge not to use tobacco, alcohol or drugs in 2012!

These are just a few of our expectations for the year, so be sure to check back in for an updated post about our first meeting!
